PISA 2025: Students Who Frequently Use AI for Assignments Have Worse Results in Science

Público8 September 2026 at 08:31

Half of Portuguese 15-year-old students use artificial intelligence tools at least once a week to do schoolwork, according to data from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2025.

The data reveals that frequent use of AI does not translate into better academic performance. On the contrary, students who use these tools most frequently show worse results in Science compared to their peers who use the technology less regularly.

The PISA 2025 results suggest that dependence on artificial intelligence for completing school tasks may be associated with lesser acquisition of knowledge and skills, particularly in the area of Science.

USA: Trump as Green Lantern and the Abusive Use of Pop Culture References

The article analyzes the tendency of political figures, such as Donald Trump, to resort to pop culture references to communicate political messages, using icons like Superman and, specifically, the Green Lantern figure. The central criticism focuses on the abusive and superficial use of these references, often without any connection to the fundamental values or principles of the original works. The text also alerts to the aggravating phenomenon of AI-generated content that uses pop culture characters without understanding the essence of these creations, resulting in disconnected and potentially misleading references. The raised question is that, when using a cultural icon for political or communication purposes, it is essential to know and respect at least the basic principle of the original work, at the risk of decontextualizing and trivializing both the pop reference and the message being conveyed.
