The República das Marias do Loureiro submitted a candidacy to the Municipal Chamber of Coimbra, in a move aimed at guaranteeing the continuity of the house it occupies. The decision comes as a response to an eviction process that threatens to put an end to this space.
The group explains that the candidacy is a way of trying to protect the Republic and stop the ongoing eviction. This is not the first time the space has turned to formal mechanisms to try to guarantee its survival.
The República das Marias do Loureiro is an occupied space that operates as collaborative housing and a venue for socializing and cultural activities in the city of Coimbra. The process now underway represents a new stage in the fight for the continuity of this project.
