SOS Voz Amiga alerts about suicide in men over 60

Observador8 September 2026 at 07:20

SOS Voz Amiga alerted to the problem of suicide in men over 60 years old. The organization, which operates a telephone support helpline, identified this age group as particularly vulnerable.

According to the data presented, out of every 100 recorded suicides, 80 are men and only 20 are women. This gender disparity raises concerns about the factors that specifically affect the elderly male population.

The president of the SOS Voz Amiga Association pointed out that loneliness, anxiety and depression are the situations most frequently raised by those who contact the support helpline. These conditions affect people of all ages, not limited to specific groups.

The alert comes at a time when the aim is to raise awareness among the population about the need to seek help and about the importance of being attentive to signs of psychological distress, especially in older men who may be more isolated.
