Champions League: FC Porto has already secured 43 million euros

Jornal Económico8 September 2026 at 07:00

FC Porto returns this Tuesday, September 8, to the Champions League after four seasons of absence, facing Manchester City at the Estádio do Dragão at 8:00 PM. The last participation of the dragons in the competition ended with elimination in the round of 16, having on that occasion collected 62 million euros.

Without playing a single match in this new league phase, FC Porto has already secured 43.1 million euros, an amount that reflects the blue and whites' European history, the only Portuguese team to win the Champions League.

The dragons have a market value of 464.8 million euros according to Transfermarkt, being the most valuable team in this edition of the Champions. This valuation surpasses six of the eight opponents they will face: PSV Eindhoven (284.4 million), Napoli (432.5 million), Feyenoord (208.7 million), Slavia Prague (106.6 million) and LASK Linz (51 million). Only Liverpool (1.1 billion) and Manchester City (1.4 billion) have higher values.

In the transfer market, FC Porto adopted a conservative stance, with a positive balance of 11.5 million euros after selling for 44 million and spending 32.5 million. The transfer of young Rodrigo Mora to Roma marked the beginning of a more active period, with reinforcements for all sectors and the guarantee of keeping essential players, including goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
