The invasive plant cortaderia, also known as pampas grass, has been identified as one of the most dangerous for health and is present in more than 200 municipalities in mainland Portugal. This Monday, specialists warned of the urgent need to combat this invasive species.
The specialists expressed their lament at the lack of measures implemented to contain the spread of cortaderia. The situation has been worsening over the years without sufficient actions being taken to stop its expansion.
Hélia Marchante, a professor at the School of Agriculture of the University, issued a warning through a press release sent to the Portuguese news agency, alerting that each year of delay in intervention makes the problem more expensive, more difficult to solve and practically impossible to stop.
