Salmonella outbreak affects more than 100 doctors at a hospital in Mexico

oglobo8 September 2026 at 04:47

At least 135 doctors at a Mexican public hospital fell ill after consuming food contaminated with salmonella in the cafeteria of Hospital Eduardo Liceaga, located in a central neighborhood of the Mexican capital. Authorities and those affected confirmed the information this Monday.

Dozens of resident doctors protested in front of the hospital with signs with messages such as "My health matters!" and "Who cares for those we care for?", denouncing the situation. One of the affected doctors, who asked not to be identified, told AFP that the outbreak allegedly began at breakfast on August 31, possibly related to eggs, and that by evening almost everyone was sick.

In addition to the salmonella contamination, the doctor reported that the food served was spoiled, with worms and mold, and that the hospital faces constant water shortages. She criticized the precarious conditions of the health facility over the past year and a half.
