Former player of the Brazilian national team and coach with stints at Grêmio and Flamengo, Paulo Silas expressed his pessimism about the future of the Brazilian national team during his appearance on an ESPN Argentina program. On that occasion, he categorically stated that Brazil will never again be a world champion in football.

Silas presented as his main argument the excessive presence of foreign players in Brazilian football, which according to him is eliminating the space for the revelation of young national talents. The former coach used Grêmio as an example of his thesis.

According to Silas, Grêmio has 13 foreigners on the squad, none of them starters for their national teams, and these players would be blocking the development of young Brazilians. The article makes a note informing that, in fact, Grêmio has 11 foreigners on the squad.
