Cuba claims "record" financial impact from US embargo

SAPO Notícias7 September 2026 at 23:45

Cuba claims that the US embargo generated a record financial impact of eight billion dollars, equivalent to 6.9 billion euros, in the period between March 2025 and February 2026. The accusation was presented by the Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, during a public statement.

The value represents a significant increase compared to previous years, with Cuban authorities stating that it is the largest financial impact ever calculated resulting from the United States' embargo on the island.

The US embargo on Cuba has been in place for more than six decades and has been consistently condemned by the Cuban government as the main cause of the economic difficulties the country faces.

Bruno Rodríguez again called on the international community to pressure the United States to end the embargo, arguing that the sanctions deeply affect the Cuban population and the country's development.
