Sweden will invest 630 million euros on purchasing Himars artillery systems from the United States. The announcement was made by the Swedish government as part of an effort to reinforce the capabilities of its armed forces.
The Himars systems are multiple rocket launchers that allow long-range precision strikes. The acquisition is part of a program to modernize Swedish military equipment.
The decision to purchase these systems comes in a context of growing concern about the Russian threat in the Baltic region. Sweden, which joined NATO in 2024, has been increasing its defense spending to face the new security environment in Europe.
With this purchase, Sweden joins other European countries that have already acquired Himars systems from the United States to reinforce their defensive capabilities.
