The Quaest survey, published on Monday, revealed that concern about corruption among Brazilians grew six percentage points, rising from 14% to 20%. With this increase, corruption became the second greatest concern among voters, trailing only violence, which remains stable at 31%. The economy ranks third, with 19% of concerns, also growing. The survey's margin of error is two percentage points.
The jump in concern about corruption occurred during the same period that the internal crisis at the Supreme Federal Court escalated. The trigger was Justice Alexandre de Moraes' request to investigate colleague André Mendonça, generating tension at the court.
Last week, new developments in the scandal revealed messages in which banker Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, asked Moraes for guidance on how he should act days before his arrest. The lifting of secrecy on these messages was authorized by Mendonça, deepening the conflict between the two justices.
