Poland is negotiating with the United States to gain access to B61 nuclear bombs, the only nuclear weapons existing on the European continent that can be used in a first stage of escalation, according to analyst Héloïse Fayet, from the French Institute of International Relations.
The analyst explains that France and the United Kingdom possess nuclear weapons, but neither nation has a capability equivalent to American B61 bombs, which are the only ones that allow responding to the so-called "first rung" of nuclear escalation.
Poland, which expresses great concern about the Russian threat, chooses to negotiate directly with Washington and not with Paris, precisely because the United States is the only one that holds this type of weapon on European soil.
The B61 bombs are currently deployed at military bases in several European countries, including Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Turkey, allowing European allies access to a nuclear capability that no other European country can offer independently.
