Released on Monday, the new Quaest survey, commissioned by the newspaper O GLOBO and TV Globo, shows President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) with 41% of voting intentions in a potential second-round runoff. The main adversary of the Workers' Party candidate, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL), appears with the same 41% in the same scenario, constituting a technical tie, given the margin of error is 2 percentage points.
The previous Quaest survey already showed a technical tie between the two candidates, with Lula at 42% against Flavio Bolsonaro's 41%. The institute's earlier polls indicated a progressive narrowing of the gap between the Workers' Party candidate and the former president Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) son.
On July 26, the gap between the two reached eight percentage points, with the current president having 45% of voting intentions against 37% for his opponent. Since then, the difference has been narrowing until the tie recorded now.
This is the first survey by the institute conducted entirely after the crisis among Supreme Court (STF) ministers escalated with Alexandre de Moraes's request to investigate certain profiles on social media.
