Lukinhas is a singer born in the Asa Branca community, in Rio's Southwest Zone, very close to where the Rock in Rio festival is held. Considered a "cria" of the community, the artist grew up watching the event up close, never imagining he could one day perform at it.
The singer performs twice this Monday (7), on the Highway Stage at Rock in Rio. The opportunity to sing at the festival represents for him the fulfillment of a dream that seemed impossible when he lived in the community.
Lukinhas reflects on the distance between the reality of the favela and access to events like Rock in Rio. According to him, when the festival was announced, residents did not think about buying tickets, but rather about ways to earn money, such as selling water at the event's entrance. "It wasn't a possible dream. These dreams aren't sold to people from the community," he states.
The singer highlights that there is still a long way to go for those from the favela, saying that "the favela hasn't won yet." For Lukinhas, performing at Rock in Rio represents a huge achievement, but also a reminder of the inequalities that still exist.
