The founder of Rokos Capital Management, Chris Rokos, will transfer his residence to Greece, abandoning the United Kingdom. The asset management firm he founded administers approximately $22 billion and will also open an office in Athens as part of this move. A representative from Rokos Capital declined to comment on the information.
The decision represents a significant victory for Greece, which offers some foreigners a special tax regime allowing the payment of a fixed annual tax of 100,000 euros on all income earned abroad, equivalent to approximately 595,000 Brazilian reals. Simultaneously, the move represents a harsh blow to the United Kingdom, which loses yet another important billionaire.
Rokos is the latest in a series of major financiers and entrepreneurs who have decided to leave the United Kingdom after the end of the historic tax regime for non-domiciled residents in the country. The article also mentions that the Co-founder of Spotify would have said he would leave Sweden if a wealth tax were adopted in that country, and that an international study indicates that a minimum 2% tax on large fortunes in Brazil could raise 30 billion reals per year.
