The company Biofabri, belonging to the Zendal Group and located in O Porriño (Pontevedra), celebrated the completion of the vaccination of 7,120 neonates in Africa in the phase 3 clinical trial of its tuberculosis vaccine. The company's executive director, Esteban Rodríguez, expressed his satisfaction indicating that it is a reason to be happy, although without big celebrations.
This is a historic milestone worldwide, as this is the first phase 3 clinical trial of a new tuberculosis vaccine to be successfully completed. The vaccination of thousands of children was carried out in African territory, where the disease has a high prevalence and impact on the population.
Biofabri's headquarters in O Porriño was the center from which the entire clinical trial process was coordinated and supervised. The Galician company has been researching and developing this vaccine for years as an alternative to existing formulations.
Tuberculosis remains one of the main global public health problems, especially in developing countries, which is why the success of this clinical trial represents a significant advance in the fight against this disease.
