Jornal Económico7 September 2026 at 20:44

The euro returned this Monday, September 7, to gains, but stayed at the 1.16 dollar barrier. At 6:00 PM (Lisbon time), the European currency was trading at 1.1628 dollars, when on Friday, at the same time, it was trading at 1.1620 dollars. The euro fell compared to the pound and the yen, having fluctuated during the session between 1.1607 and 1.1635 dollars. The European Central Bank set the euro's reference exchange rate at 1.1622 dollars.

On the same day, the Kremlin stated it does not exclude the resumption of trilateral negotiations between Moscow, Kyiv and Washington to find a solution to the war in Ukraine. The spokesperson for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, stated that "any attempt constitutes a step toward peace" and thanked the American negotiators.

The envoys of the President of the United States, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, traveled on Saturday to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and on Sunday headed for Kyiv for the first time, where they met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to a senior official from the Ukrainian presidency, Trump's envoys presented both heads of state with new, "more effective" proposals to end the war in Ukraine, which began with Russia's invasion of the neighboring country on February 24, 2022.
