Latvia bans books from Russia and Belarus for "war propaganda"

Latvia banned the import and distribution of books from Russia and Belarus, classifying them as "war propaganda". The measure took effect on September 1.

In addition to books, the former Soviet republic also banned the import of various goods from these two countries, including clothing, toys and sporting goods.

The decision is part of the broader context of geopolitical tensions between Latvia and Russia, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022, and Belarus, its close ally.
