The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, responded to accusations that the State would be profiting from the increase in fuel prices, considering this accusation "unfair". The official recalled that the Executive has been implementing measures to mitigate the impact on consumers.
Since February 26, the revenue collected from the VAT increase on fuels has been fully used to offset the Fuel Tax (ISP), totaling 700 million euros. This measure aims to compensate the population for the worsening of prices.
The minister defended that the government's strategy has been transparent, channeling the additional tax revenue to reduce the tax burden on fuels instead of using it for other public expenses.
Maria da Graça Carvalho highlighted that the support exceeds 700 million euros, suggesting that the State is not financially benefiting from the situation, but rather reinvesting the tax revenue to protect citizens from rising energy costs.
