The expectations generated by the recent visits to Moscow and Kiev by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, envoys of President Donald Trump for the conflict in Eastern Europe, ultimately did not materialize. The only tangible result from the meetings held with Russian and Ukrainian leadership was the resumption of trilateral negotiations, albeit in an environment marked by little hope of reaching an agreement in the short term.
The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, convinced that his army maintains the initiative on the battlefield, limited himself to reiterating a list of already known demands. These demands are rejected by both Ukraine and its European allies, who consider them a de facto surrender.
