The Left Bloc challenged the Government to apply a fuel price regulation mechanism, similar to what already exists in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and the Azores. Deputy Andreia Galvão was the party's voice in this demand, criticizing the inaction of the central executive in the face of rising prices.
Andreia Galvão highlighted that this Monday the gasoline price recorded the biggest jump in four years, while the diesel price hit a historic record. These increases were highlighted by the party as proof of the urgent need for intervention.
The Portuguese autonomous regions already have regulation mechanisms that allow them to mitigate the impacts of fuel price fluctuations. The Left Bloc argues that the same type of mechanism should be applied nationally to protect consumers.
The left-wing party considers that without this regulation, Portuguese people remain vulnerable to variations in the international oil market, something that directly affects the cost of living and family economy.
