Former prime minister José Sócrates filed a complaint against prosecutor Jorge Rosário Teixeira, who led the Operation Marquês investigation. The complaint was filed with the Attorney General on the grounds that the testimony given by the prosecutor in court contained falsehoods.
The complaint arises following a contradiction identified in Rosário Teixeira's testimony. Initially, the prosecutor denied having had contacts with journalists before Sócrates' detention, but subsequently admitted that he may have spoken with a reporter.
Sócrates intends to find out whether the prosecutor lied under oath during his court testimony. The former prime minister believes the facts are likely to constitute the crime of false testimony.
