A conference on the theme "Women Farmers – Voices, Experiences, Challenges" took place in Montemor-o-Novo, integrated into the celebrations of the International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026. The event, held at the APORMOR Auditorium, brought together women from the agricultural sector and the associative movement to share experiences and perspectives on the role of women in Portuguese agriculture. The Secretary of State for Agriculture, João Moura, defended the need to attract more young women to agricultural education and sciences, also highlighting the importance of valuing national products in international markets. The president of the Municipal Council, Carlos Pinto de Sá, emphasized that women's presence in agriculture is not a recent phenomenon, although public recognition of this work has fallen short of its true dimension, highlighting the current assertion of women as entrepreneurs and managers of agricultural holdings. The initiative also allowed for debate on the need for generational renewal in the sector.
