BPI keeps Executive Committee but has four new board members. Gonzalo Cortazar leaves

Jornal Económico7 September 2026 at 18:48

Banco BPI announced the composition of its governing bodies for the 2026-2028 term, after sole shareholder CaixaBank approved the appointments unanimously on September 3, authorization that had been granted by the European Central Bank on August 19. The bank maintains its Executive Committee led by João Pedro Oliveira e Costa as CEO, which also includes Afonso Fuzeta Eça, Ana Rosas Oliveira, Diogo Sousa Louro, Francisco Artur Matos and Susana Trigo Cabral.

On the non-executive board, four new administrators take office: Ana Sofia Marta, Cidália Mota Lopes, David Lopez and Sofia Salgado Pinto. Leaving are Gonzalo Gortázar (from CaixaBank), Fátima Barros, Natividad Capella and Joana Freitas. Fernando Ulrich was designated chairman of the Board of Directors, with Cristina Rios Amorim and Javier Pano as first and second vice-chairmen, respectively.

The Board of Directors now has seven women out of 15 administrators, representing a change in gender composition. CaixaBank reduced its representation from three to two administrators. On the specialized committees, Cidália Mota Lopes chairs the Audit Committee, Inês Valadas chairs the Risk Committee, Sofia Salgado Pinto leads the Nominations, Evaluation and Remuneration Committee, and Artur Santos Silva chairs the Social Responsibility Committee.

BPI is 100% owned by the Spanish group CaixaBank, which thus consolidates full control over the Portuguese bank through this new governance structure for the term that begins.
