The Portuguese startup Lampsy Health won the sixth edition of the Global Tech Innovator in Portugal, a technological innovation competition organized by KPMG. The company developed a platform based on artificial intelligence to monitor people with epilepsy, using a camera embedded in a lamp that detects movements associated with epileptic episodes and sends alerts to parents or caregivers. The system uses computer vision techniques and was designed to preserve user privacy.
Lampsy Health was founded by Vicente Garção, Leonor Pereira and Joana Pinto, and was born as a spin-off from the Instituto de Telecomunicações and Instituto Superior Técnico. The startup was chosen by an independent jury among seven finalists, selected from a group of dozens of applications. Among the evaluation criteria were the degree of innovation, market potential, business sustainability and presentation quality.
The victory grants Lampsy Health 12 months of support from KPMG Portugal in the areas of Advisory and tax and accounting consulting. The company will represent Portugal in the international final of the competition, which takes place in November during the Web Summit in Lisbon, where it will compete with national winners from over 20 geographies.
Lampsy Health succeeds Ethiack, winner of the 2025 edition, and joins a list of previous winners that includes BHOUT (2024), Rauva (2023), Musiversal (2022) and Defined.AI (2021). According to Vasco Mendes, partner of Advisory at KPMG Portugal, the quality of the applications demonstrates the greater maturity of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and the development of technology and artificial intelligence in Portugal.
