The parish of Amorim hosted the 24th edition of the Ex-Combatants Meeting, an initiative that aims to strengthen the community's connection to its local history and to the contribution of the men who served in the Colonial War. The event remains a landmark in the community calendar, bringing together former military personnel from the region annually.
The day began with a mass in honor of the ex-combatants, followed by a pilgrimage to the local cemetery, where the military personnel of the parish who have already passed away were evoked. This moment of reflection reinforces the human dimension and collective memory that the meeting preserves year after year.
After the solemn ceremonies, the celebration continued with the traditional lunch at Quinta do Pe. Pedro, in Terroso, bringing together dozens of ex-combatants in an atmosphere of camaraderie and sharing among old war companions.
The ceremony featured the presence of councilor Carina Moreira, representing the Municipal Chamber of Póvoa de Varzim, and the president of the Parish Council of Amorim, Sérgio Furtado, underscoring the importance that both local authorities attribute to this numerous tradition of recognition and preservation of the memory of former military personnel.
