The Praça do Mar, in Quarteira, will host on October 4 the Sweet Potato March-Race, an event that combines physical activity, socializing and a local tradition associated with the distribution of roasted sweet potato to participants. The initiative is organized by the Quarteira Parish Council, in partnership with the Loulé Municipal Council, and is part of the Algarve Regional March and Race Calendar, promoted by the Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth (IPDJ).
Participants can choose between two routes, of five or ten kilometers, that cross different areas of the parish. The program starts at 09:30 with a warm-up session, followed by departure at 10:00. The event is aimed at people of all ages, whether they prefer to run or walk.
Participation is free, but requires prior registration, which can be done in person at the Quarteira Parish Council or through a form available on the council's website. At the end of the route, the tradition of offering roasted sweet potato to participants is maintained.
The president of the Quarteira Parish Council, João Romão, highlighted that this is already an initiative that is part of the city's tradition, inviting both running enthusiasts and those who prefer walking to participate, noting that the parish continues to invest in promoting sport and the adoption of healthy lifestyles.
