The Évora Court of Appeal revoked an acquittal decision and convicted a 32-year-old man for aggravated domestic violence against a 25-year-old woman. The case proceeded in the Local Court of Reguengos de Monsaraz, where the defendant's acquittal had been issued in November 2025.
The new sentence was issued on July 14 and has already become final, meaning there is no possibility of appeal. The decision results from an appeal filed by the Public Prosecutor's Office against the initial acquittal.
The defendant was sentenced to two years and six months in prison, a sentence that was suspended in its execution. This suspension means that the convicted person will not serve the sentence in a prison facility, provided they comply with certain conditions imposed by the court.
The second-instance court considered that the evidence produced was sufficient to demonstrate the commission of the crime of aggravated domestic violence, thus reversing the decision of the first-instance court that had acquitted the man of the charges.
