The district of Viseu recorded 8,526 hectares of burned area between January and August, the third highest value in the country. The data comes from the most recent report by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF).
Nationally, rural fires consumed 67,130 hectares in the same period, representing a reduction of 73.5% compared to the same timeframe in 2025.
The ICNF is the body responsible for compiling and disseminating these statistics on burned area in Portugal, being the official source referenced for data on the evolution of rural fires in the country.
The report allows for a comparison between the different Portuguese districts, positioning Viseu among the most affected areas despite the overall trend of decreasing burned area nationwide.
