France abandoned plans to make a deposit system for plastic bottles mandatory. The French executive proposed instead a voluntary and locally-based system for the collection of these packaging materials.
The decision comes in light of the strong disparities observed in collection rates between different territories of the country. The government considers that a mandatory model would face significant obstacles in its implementation.
The new voluntary system aims to better adapt to France's territorial diversity, allowing each region or municipality to adapt the model to its specific collection and recycling needs.
