SYNDICATE SAYS THERE IS ONE HEMATOLOGIST FOR THE ALGARVE AND LOWER ALENTEJO, ULS/ALGARVE DENIES

O Atual - Informação de Verdade7 September 2026 at 15:55

The Southern Zone Doctors' Union (SMZS-FNAM) reported that only one female hematologist ensures the hematology service in the Algarve and Lower Alentejo, considering this situation serious for the provision of health care in these regions.

The ULS/Algarve (Local Health Unit of the Algarve) contested the union's report and denied that there is only one hematologist working in these areas.

According to ULS/Algarve, the health unit currently has four hematologists providing services, thus contradicting the version presented by SMZS-FNAM.

The conflict between the two entities arises following a report made by the union, which warned about the insufficiency of hematology doctors in the Algarve region and Lower Alentejo.
