Former Formula 1 chief Bernie Ecclestone, 95 years old, was detained at Tires Aerodrome, in Cascais, near Lisbon, after being found with a shotgun upon disembarking from his private jet. The approach occurred this Monday (7), during a routine operation by the Airport Division of the Public Security Police (PSP). So far, it is not clear if the British magnate will be formally charged or brought before a judge, and the PSP had not officially commented on the case.
This is not the first time Ecclestone has faced problems related to firearms. Four years earlier, in 2022, he was intercepted in Brazil at Viracopos Airport, in Campinas, as he prepared to board a private jet bound for Switzerland. At the time, Ecclestone admitted that the weapon was in his luggage, but claimed he did not know it had been placed there. After paying bail, he was released to continue his journey.
