IMT restructures. Rail safety is one of the affected areas

CNN Portugal7 September 2026 at 14:19

The Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes (IMT) is making changes to its organizational structure. These changes cover several areas of the institute's activity, including rail safety, which is one of the most directly affected by this restructuring.

The senior executive of IMT publicly acknowledged flaws in the organizational model that had been implemented in 2012. This admission comes in the context of the need to update the institute's processes and structure to respond to current challenges in the sector.

The restructuring comes at a time when rail safety in Portugal has been under scrutiny, being considered a priority for the transport regulatory authorities. The new model aims to correct the deficiencies identified over the past years.
