Peace in Ukraine? "No new ideas heard" to end the war, despite US optimism

SIC Notícias7 September 2026 at 14:25

The US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff said they were optimistic about Ukraine's future after a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev. The two representatives of the United States expressed hope that there could be progress toward peace in the country.

However, the Ukrainian population, which has been living in large-scale war for more than four and a half years, looks very skeptically at this meeting, according to SIC correspondent Iryna Shev. The civilians do not share the optimism demonstrated by the US envoys.

The article states that no new ideas were heard to end the war, despite the optimism demonstrated by the United States. This absence of concrete proposals contrasts with the expectation of a ceasefire that the Ukrainian population has been harboring for several years now.
