The General Inspectorate of Health Activities (IGAS) opened an inspection action at Hospital Garcia de Orta in Almada. The investigation comes as a result of the closure of the unwanted pregnancy consultation, which ceased to operate on August 10.
The hospital redirected women seeking this consultation to a private unit, significantly altering access to this health service. IGAS had already been monitoring the process before deciding to formally proceed with the investigation.
Diário de Notícias had previously reported information deficiencies at this hospital, as well as violations of recommendations issued by both IGAS and the Health Regulator. These irregularities were documented before the consultation's closure.
