The Belgian Football Federation (RBFA) announced that it will not support Gianni Infantino's candidacy for a new term as FIFA president, citing "lack of transparency" and governance failures at the helm of the world governing body. The decision was communicated on Monday.
With this position, Belgium follows the example of other European federations that have also withdrawn their support for Infantino, such as Sweden, Scotland, and Italy. The RBFA stated that, in line with UEFA, it expects clear answers about the decision-making process related to the Italo-Swiss executive's frustrated project to manage World Cup revenues through a company open to private investors.
Additionally, the Belgian federation demanded in its statement "full transparency and clear explanations" in the case of the red card shown to American player Folarin Balogun during the World Cup in the United States. The striker was sent off in the round of 16 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, but was able to play the quarterfinal clash against Belgium.
