Benfica officially confirmed the departure of six athletes from the women's water polo team of Clube da Luz. The red and white structure announced that the sextet of victorious sportswomen will not be part of the squad for the sporting season, thus ending their connection to the club.
Mariana Sousa ends a historic multi-year connection to Benfica in water polo. The player was at the Luz since the age of thirteen and helped win seven National Championships, seven Portuguese Cups and seven Super Cups during her time at the club.
International Carlota Milheiro also leaves Benfica after four seasons wearing the eagle on her chest, having contributed decisively to winning four National Championships, four Portuguese Cups and four Super Cups in the sport.
The squad restructuring also included the departures of athletes Matilde Ribeiro and Francisca Ribeiro, who had been linked to the club for three seasons. The two players had been loaned to Cascais Waterpolo.
