Until the end of September, scientists from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) and the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) will conduct the IBERAS0926 acoustic survey. This survey's main objective is to estimate the strength of sardine recruitment, that is, the abundance of individuals born this year who, starting next year, will join the population of this species. Recruitment is a fundamental indicator for assessing the state of the sardine population and for supporting future fishery management decisions. This collaboration between Portugal and Spain allows for a more complete and comprehensive monitoring of the sardine population in the Northeast Atlantic.
