Euro Zone GDP growth revised upward to 1.2% in the second quarter

Eurostat revised upward the GDP growth of the Euro Zone for the second quarter, now setting it at 1.2%. Previously, in August, the European statistics entity had forecast growth of only 1.0% for the euro area economy. For the set of European Union member states, the forecast remained at 1.2%. This revision reflects an improvement in the economic prospects of the euro zone in the period under analysis.

The National Association of Passenger Transport (ANTROP) warned that the end of extraordinary fuel support puts the continuity of road public transport at risk, estimating an impact of 15 million euros in the sector between July and September. According to ANTROP, the increase of about 0.289 euros per liter in diesel compared to the pre-crisis level translates into significant financial burden. The association recalls that the 74 member companies are bound by public service contracts that prevent immediate reflection of increases in fares, warning that the lack of compensation may compromise the economic viability of companies and compliance with contracted services.
