Nepal declared a national day of mourning on Monday (7) for the victims of the devastating glacial floods that hit the country. Flags were flown at half-mast and candlelight vigils were planned for the end of the day, as the nation marked the 13th day after the tragedy, following Hindu mourning rituals.

The families of missing hydroelectric power plant workers continued to pray that rescue workers might still find them alive, fearing they may be trapped in tunnels. Hundreds of hydroelectric power plant workers are among the missing.

The glacial and mountainous collapse occurred on August 26 on the border between China and Nepal. The disaster killed at least 1,398 people, with more than 5,500 missing, including about 800 foreigners. China reported that the flood destroyed a five-story border post in Tibet.
