North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inaugurated on Sunday a new nuclear-capable destroyer called Kang Kon. The inauguration ceremony took place with the presence of the North Korean leader himself, who marked this moment as a significant milestone for the country's military capabilities.
The Kang Kon now joins the Choe Hyon, another destroyer already in operation. Both ships have a displacement of five thousand tons and are equipped with nuclear-capable missiles, making them the most advanced warships currently available to North Korea.
With this inauguration, Kim Jong-un announced the completion of the nuclearisation of the North Korean Navy. This declaration reinforces Pyongyang's strategy of integrating nuclear capabilities into its naval forces, at a time of growing tension in the region.
