The Green Hospitals project, dedicated to hospital sustainability, will hold its closing ceremony on September 17 at ULS Algarve – Portimão Unit. During the session, specialists, hospital administrators and Iberian institutional representatives will present the results, conclusions, solutions and good practices developed over three years.
The project is a cross-border cooperation initiative between Portugal and Spain, developed under the POCTEP 2021-2027. The consortium involves five Portuguese entities, including the Portuguese Association of Hospital Administrators (APAH), ULS Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, ULS de Coimbra, ULS Algarve and the National Network of Energy Agencies (RNAE), as well as two Spanish entities: EREN – Castilla y León Energy Agency and SERGAS – Galicia Health Agency.
According to Xavier Barreto, president of APAH, the project allowed understanding that it is possible to unite innovation, sustainability and cooperation in the service of public health. The official argues that the response to the climate crisis cannot be limited to the provision of care, and should also be reflected in the management of resources and infrastructure.
The closing ceremony will also include the presentation of the Energy Savings Awards, which recognize work that promotes energy efficiency. Xavier Barreto states that the challenge now is to ensure that the knowledge developed has continuity and that the solutions tested can be replicated in Iberian health systems.
