Hospitals held hostage by schedules: SNS needs 600 more anesthesiologists

Hospitals in Portugal face serious difficulties in organizing medical schedules, a situation that has called into question the functioning of health services. The National Health Service is in a critical dependency situation regarding the availability of professionals to fill work schedules.

According to the data presented, the SNS needs approximately 600 more anesthesiologists to adequately respond to the increased demand for healthcare. This shortage of professionals represents one of the biggest challenges for the Portuguese public health system.

The lack of specialists in anesthesiology directly affects the surgical capacity of hospitals, compromising scheduled interventions and potentially endangering the quality of care provided to patients. The situation reflects a broader structural problem of human resources within the SNS.
