An avalanche hit the Bezengi Gorge, one of the most demanding mountainous areas in the Caucasus, in Russia. The incident surprised a group of 33 climbers who were in the region.
Rescue teams were dispatched to the scene and have so far recorded 11 dead and six injured among the group members.
Search operations continue at the scene, with authorities attempting to locate six people who remain missing after the avalanche.
