Nepal has raised the death toll to 1,355 and has 4,996 people missing due to the flood that destroyed entire settlements in the mountainous region near the border with Tibet, China. The death toll increased by 14 compared to the previous count from Sunday.
The catastrophe was caused by the collapse of a glacier in the Himalayas, which triggered a devastating flood. Thousands of rescue teams continue to operate in the field, almost two weeks after the disaster, attempting to find survivors among the rubble.
Local authorities and the National Authority for Disaster Risk Reduction continue to coordinate relief efforts and update data on victims and missing persons. The affected region remains under a state of emergency while search operations continue.
