The Rodovia dos Lagos (RJ-124), known as Via Lagos, presents risk of sudden pavement collapse, according to a diagnosis by CCR itself, the concessionaire that manages the road. The report was sent by letter in July to the Rio de Janeiro Department of Roads (DER-RJ). The company claims it does not have authorization to carry out urgent interventions on the road's drainage system.
The concession has been in a delicate situation since the Court of Accounts of the State of Rio de Janeiro (TCE-RJ) ruled illegal, four years ago, the additive terms that extended the contract until 2047. The office of counselor Rodrigo do Nascimento, rapporteur of the process, stated that these terms had a direct impact on the toll tariff charged to users.
With one of the most expensive tolls in the country, Via Lagos spans 57 kilometers, connecting the Metropolitan and Lagos regions, running from Rio Bonito to São Pedro da Aldeia. The concessionaire is awaiting a decision on the contract renewal to begin the obras deemed necessary to ensure the safety of highway users.
