Energy leads gains on the Lisbon stock exchange. EDPR and Galp rise above 1%

The Lisbon stock exchange opened the first session of the week in positive territory, with the energy sector leading the gains. EDPR and Galp were the companies with the biggest gains, rising more than 1%.

Across the Portuguese market, eight listed companies closed in the green while five ended in negative territory. This was the predominant trend in the session.

The positive start on the Portuguese market followed the tone of other European markets, which also recorded gains at the start of the week.

The National Association of Passenger Transport (ANTROP) warned that the end of extraordinary fuel support puts the continuity of road public transport at risk, estimating an impact of 15 million euros in the sector between July and September. The association argues that the monthly subsidy of 420 euros per eligible heavy vehicle, granted by the Government for three months, should be extended while exceptional conditions persist in the fuel market. According to ANTROP, the increase of about 0.289 euros per liter in diesel compared to the pre-crisis level translates into significant financial burden. The association recalls that the 74 member companies are bound by public service contracts that prevent immediate reflection of increases in fares, warning that the lack of compensation may compromise the economic viability of companies and compliance with contracted services.
