Tina Correia launches second novel, 'Fidiguido', valuing the orality of folklore and cordel literature

oglobo7 September 2026 at 07:30

The journalist and writer Tina Correia has just launched her second novel, "Fidiguido", which values the orality of folklore, the poetry of cordel literature and Northeastern regional popular music. The title of the book is a corruption of "son of Guido" and came from one of Tina's nephews who used this word.

The inspiration for the work came from stories lived and mainly heard by Tina during her childhood and youth in Aracaju. Among these stories is that of a gossipy aunt who, in the 1950s, rummaged through neighbors' trash at dawn to find out if they used "Venus shirt" — at the time, the condom was seen as "something for prostitutes".

In the novel, Tina weaves the web of relationships of the residents of a small town in the Northeast, mobilized by the disappearance of the clubfoot boy. The child's father is Guido, described as the most famous sailor of that coastline and central character in the author's fiction.
