Food offering and isolation during the pandemic contributed to foxes approaching urban areas in Colombia; understand

The frequent presence of foxes in residential complexes in northern Bogotá, especially in the city of Usaquén, generated alerts among residents and reignited the debate about wildlife management on urban borders adjacent to the Eastern Hills. The offering of food and isolation during the pandemic contributed to these animals approaching urban areas.

Given the repeated sightings, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca (CAR) sent technical teams to conduct field visits and inspections in the forest and perimeter areas under its jurisdiction. The professionals' priority objective was to assess the state of local ecosystems and verify if there were environmental or anthropogenic pressures forcing these mammals to relocate to streets and residential units.

After preliminary analyses, CAR ruled out serious ecological emergencies in the reserve. The corporation did not identify significant environmental problems that would justify the massive displacement of foxes to urban areas.
