This year, 13 people are running for the highest office in Brazilian politics. Among the candidates are Lula and Bolsonaro, as well as a self-help writer. The electoral process will take place on October 4.
There is a possibility that the country will be called to the polls again a few weeks later, if no candidate obtains an absolute majority of votes in the first round. This is a tradition of the Brazilian electoral system, where a second round is required when no candidate reaches more than 50% of the votes.
