Eight countries condemn Israeli proposals to expel Gaza residents

dnoticias.pt7 September 2026 at 02:41

Eight mostly Muslim countries condemned on Wednesday calls made by Israeli ministers to expel the Palestinian population from the Gaza Strip. Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, said on Wednesday that the government is "organized and ready to withdraw the population from Gaza by sea, by air and by all possible means," but on the condition that the United States approves it. The following day, Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, responsible for National Security, presented a similar proposal. The eight countries that signed the condemnation considered these proposals to constitute a serious violation of international law and a war crime, calling on the international community to prevent their implementation.

The empire was not a fable

Portugal tells its overseas history as a seductive epic, but an incomplete one. The article argues that discovering is not developing and that an empire should be measured by the institutions and freedoms it leaves behind, not by the size of its map. The colonial narrative erases that the occupied territories already had their own societies and that expansion involved coercion and violence. The argument that "without Portugal they would have nothing" is described as a fallacy. In the 20th century, the Estado Novo transformed this illusion into a national dogma to sustain the dictatorship and a thirteen-year war in Africa, until the 25th of April made decolonization inevitable. The text concludes that adult history does not need to erase navigators or heritage, but demands rigor to recognize ingenuity without transforming domination into virtue.
